A link to a new brochure, Wildfire Safety Guide, has been posted to the
Fire & Emergency Response tab of this website.  You can find it towards the bottom of the page in the Brochures section.  It contains a lot of current advice on how to prepare for and stay safe in the event of a wildfire.  You can also view it here: Wildfire Safety Guide .

An air quality monitoring station is now available 24/7.  When you click on the image shown below you will be taken to a map.  In the middle will be a small colored circle with a number in the middle.  This is the Air Quality Index at this moment.  You can click on that circle for more information.  Refresh page if colored circle does not appear.

Did You Know?

Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to United States Environmental Protection Agency estimates. Overall, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year in the United States. About 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked.

EPA recommends homes be fixed if the radon level is 4 pCi/L (pico Curies per Liter) or more. EPA also recommends that Americans consider fixing their home for radon levels between 2 pCi/L and 4 pCi/L.

Zone 1 counties have a predicted average indoor radon screening level greater than 4 pCi/L (pico curies per liter) (red zones) Highest Potential.  Flathead County is in Zone 1.
